A king’s heart is channeled water in the hand of the LORD; God directs it where he pleases. All your ways may be straight in your own eyes, but it is the LORD who weighs hearts. To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
The whole world is guilty of this. Even the faithful seek to justify their action(s). We who remember and accept GOD’S LOVE and His plan for SALVATION can fall into this trap. We choose a course, and we believe in our hearts that we are doing the ‘right’ thing. But, let us not be fooled by the snares and distractions laid about us. We cannot judge our actions and beliefs accurately unless we receive confirmation from God. Even our best intentions may not be God’s will. For instance, there are many stories about the missionary or preacher who neglects his own family to follow his vision, his calling, and his own children become drug addicts, adulterers, murderers, etc. We must, of course, go where the Lord directs and do as He commands, but we should never get ahead of Him to fulfill our own desires (this is the leading cause of Christian burn-out).
But we need to be most concerned with sin itself. When we seek to justify our bad decisions and continue in a sinful manner, we risk everything. Our NEW LIFE becomes corrupted and the GIFTS which once benefitted the body of Christ become unfruitful. If we find ourselves being tempted we need to ‘repent’ and turn toward the Savior, and to one another. More importantly, though, we need to seek confirmation BEFORE we choose a path to follow. Even Paul and Barnabas did so before they began the journeys.
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
Holy Spirit, BAPTIZE us with Your fire and zeal to do what is right in the sight of our Father in heaven. Through Your word, through our brothers and sisters, confirm our heart’s desire to do Your will, to GROW into fruitful disciples and be TRANSFORMED into the bride of Christ. Close the doors which would lead us to temptation and destruction, and open those which lead to RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, JOY in the Holy Spirit and to eternal life.
